Which Class Time Is Right for You? Choosing Your CrossFit Session in Balcatta

October 19, 2026

One of the first questions we hear from new members at TandEm CrossFit in Balcatta isn't about barbells or burpees. It's "Which class should I actually go to?" Fair question. With sessions from the crack of dawn through to the evening, there's a time that fits almost every Perth routine. The trick is picking the one you'll show up to consistently, because that matters more than any "perfect" time of day.

Our class times at a glance

Here's what's on the timetable each week:

  • 5am and 6am – Monday to Friday
  • 9:30am – Monday, Wednesday and Friday
  • 5pm – Monday to Friday
  • 6pm – Monday to Wednesday
  • 7:30am – Saturday

Every class is coached, every workout scales to your level, and the format is the same whichever slot you choose. So the question isn't which class is "best". It's which one suits your life.

The 5am and 6am crowd: get it done before the day starts

If your days fill up quickly, an early session means training is ticked off before work emails, school drop-offs or surprise meetings can get in the way. Early classes tend to attract people who like a bit of routine and a sense of momentum for the rest of the day. The 5am class is a favourite with those who want to be at their desk by 8, while 6am gives you a touch more breathing room.

The honest downside? The alarm. If you're not a natural early bird, give it a few weeks. Many of our members who started out saying "never" now swear by it. Lay out your gear the night before and you're halfway there.

The 9:30am class: a sweet spot for flexible schedules

On Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, our 9:30am session is popular with people who work from home and parents who've just done the school run. You head back to your day already feeling like you've achieved something. If your schedule has some flexibility, this one is worth considering. It also pairs nicely with a post-class coffee or bite from The Wooden Spoon Café, which shares our Balcatta premises and has plenty of whole-food, paleo and gluten-free options.

5pm and 6pm: train after work, switch off for the evening

For plenty of people, a late-afternoon or early-evening session is the perfect way to shake off a long day. The 5pm class runs Monday to Friday, and the 6pm class runs Monday to Wednesday. These classes have a lively, social energy, as members catch up with each other and cheer each other through the workout. If you're someone who feels stiff and stuck after sitting all day, you'll probably love it.

Just be realistic about your week. If work regularly runs late, or you tend to talk yourself out of going once you're home, an earlier slot might serve you better. Which brings us to the most important point of all.

Saturday at 7:30am: the weekend reset

Saturday morning is a lovely way to start the weekend. There's no clock-watching, the community vibe is strong, and you've still got the whole day ahead of you. It's a handy catch-up if your week got away from you.

Consistency beats the "perfect" time

Here's the part we want every beginner to hear: aim for a minimum of three sessions each week. Training fewer than three times weekly means your body never really gets the chance to adapt. You stay constantly sore, progress stalls, and motivation fades. Three or more regular sessions is where things start to click.

That's why the best class time is the one you can repeat. Many members mix it up, for example 6am on Monday and Wednesday, then Saturday morning. Others lock in the same slot every time because routine makes it easy. Both approaches work.

A few tips for choosing your slot

  • Be honest about your energy. If you're flat by 7pm, don't schedule yourself for a 6pm class.
  • Look at your commitments. School runs, work deadlines and family dinners all matter.
  • Bring a friend. Having someone expecting you makes showing up much easier.

Where do Fundamentals fit in?

Before joining regular classes, every new member completes our compulsory Fundamentals program: three one-hour sessions for $220. These aren't held in the regular timetable. We schedule them around you, so you don't need to worry about picking a class time until you've learned the basics and feel confident. By then, you'll have a much better sense of which slot suits you.
